Things did not improve with the Macbook Pro and the WNR834b when in IEEE 802.11n (draft) mode. I switched the router back to 802.11g and things have been working great. Hopefully a future upgrade by Apple or Netgear will release a firmware upgrade so I can use the 802.11n as a viable main option.
I decided to take advantage of the wireless n adapter in my macbook so I purchased a Netgear WNR834B from a local retail store. The Mabook Pro seems to have issues with the Netgear wireless router it will make a connection (ie show its connected) when coming out of sleep mode but it will not connect to the internet. Everything gets assigned but the route on the OS side.
After I made these two changes on the router things improved.
1. LAN IP Setup - Change “Rip Direction” to “Both”
2. In Wireless Settings change the channel to something other then “auto”. I picked 10.
Now when my macbook comes out of sleep mode the wireless works and I can surf at least 8/10 times.
It’s been awhile since I last posted on this blog, maybe I am not much of a person to post who knows. I hope I can make regular and useful updates here about Ubuntu, Linux and OSX in the near future.
I decided to give up my dedicated server and go back and give mediatemple another shot 3 months later :). I sold off all my high traffic sites so I think MT can handle this blog and some other misc stuff that is mostly flat files. I just couldn’t justify the monthly expense for the dedicated server anymore since I wasn’t using it for anything productive, all my development on my dns project is done on my laptop and home Ubuntu server. Lets hope this time things work out with MT.
I also got myself a iphone about two weeks after they came out, I had to cancel my sprint contract but good ridden to them their service was junk in my area. My iphone works great so far and my service level with AT&T is superior in my area.
Our cat is a long hair persian and he hates getting brushed and the result was matted hair. We took him to get shaved and the result is awesome! The poor guy is humiliated in this picture. I do feel pretty bad for him although he is adjusting.
I really wanted it to work out and it did at first things were great speeds were fast, sites loaded well. About 2 weeks into it everything went to hell in a handbasket (read on the blog) Ddos attacks, sql issues, performance problems and not to mention the worthless support. If you need something call them its faster. So all my sites are now back on my dedicated server and 100x faster, I should of learned my lesson the first time.. :O
