Ulnar Nerve Transposition Surgery - Update

by ubuntu-geek on Jun.09, 2008, under Life

I figured I would take a minute and update my status after 3 months. My elbow is still very tender and hurts when touched in certain ways, like if its bumped or I set it down on a table. My arm is still very stiff and the elbow is numb as well, its a odd feeling and the tingling in my pinky and ring finger still persists.

I go back to the doctor next week and we’ll see what he says, my nerve was pretty damaged and when I visited a month ago he said I would most likely still see improvement 2-5 years down the road. All-in-All I am not sure the surgery was really a total success the aching has gone away but the numbness hasn’t and that’s the part I am having trouble getting used too.

I’ll try to keep up on my updates on a more regular basis since people seem to be interested in sharing their experiences on my previous post. :)

Ulnar Nerve Transposition Surgery

by ubuntu-geek on Mar.23, 2008, under Life

On 3/17/08 I had surgery to correct a pinched nerve in my elbow. The pinched nerve was causing the pinky and ring fingers to be numb and tingle, also serve arm aching. Hopefully this surgery will correct the issue, however the pain right now is horrible. The nerve was relocated to forearm under the muscle. Here are some pictures of my arm taken 4 days after surgery.

I setup a small forum for everyone to discuss their surgery since this is a very popular desitionation for people on my blog. You can find it at http://moxiefoxtrot.com/forum/

What a week

by ubuntu-geek on Oct.17, 2007, under Life

What a crazy week this has been. Monday night around 11pm our cat got really ill and we took him to the emergency vet. Come to find out his urinary track was blocked and his bladder was full and was the size of a baseball. He spent the last 48 hours at the animal hospital and we finally were able to take him home tonight. The total damage $1600 :)

Also my wife dropped her iphone and broke it.. replacement cost $125 we got a discount :) at least something is going right this week.. well sorta.

Crazy times..

by ubuntu-geek on Oct.14, 2007, under Life

Wow I feel like life is going 150 mph right now. I quit my job of 2.5 years as a system administrator for a digital jukebox company about a month ago to took a new job as a server administrator for a large newspaper. I was bored and didn’t feel like there was any future at my previous job, I could go on but who cares right? Anyways, it was a long process to get the new job I wanted it took about 2 months and 3 interviews. I had other interviews during that time but they were nothing that really interested me.

I am going on my 3rd week at the new job and I love it. The people are nice and helpful and I am getting to work on some really cool stuff that I would have probably missed out on if I hadn’t taken the risk and stepped out of the “job safety box” earlier in the summer.  It’s kind of nerve racking starting a new job, meeting new people and learning the in’s and out’s of a new job, but this is worth it for sure.

My first project has been working with vmware server to get some initial vmware sessions going with the plan to setup a proof of concept vmware esx cluster with those original vmware server sessions. This is some really awesome technology and I am sure I’ll be blogging about it in the future as I really get my hands into it.

I also decided a few weeks ago to revitalize the moxiewebdns project and possibly launch a dns hosting service on the side. The project has been on my mind for a few months now and I hope to have something stable soon.

when things evolve..

by ubuntu-geek on May.11, 2007, under Life

Some people thing I am crazy for this but during the past 2.5 years running ubuntuforums.org there has been a need for a place to discuss religion, politics, life, civil liberties and we created “the backyard” on the ubuntuforums. For the past few months I’ve been thinking we have a large userbase who loves to discuss and debate such topics that could fall under the ubuntuforum guidelines and the ubuntu CoC.

The solution? Keep the community cafe and the backyard in tact on the ubuntuforums but offer a place for the user base to discuss topics that really don’t fall under the Ubuntu Linux blanket. Such as politics, religion, civil liberties and so on. I am happy to announce a new forum called “Social Discussion” a place for these types of debates and conversations to take place, a place with limited restrictions and a place for one to share personal beliefs.

I welcome you to come socialize at http://socialdiscussion.com
