Hey nice work! out of the box it works great but loading ubuntu 8.10 in virtualbox as the guest all works except the nvidia drivers glx-177 will not load for some reason when i got o hardware drivers it dosnt show up any ideas? or is this a Virtualbox thing?

Hi, A very well written tutorial… I had installed the Ubuntu 8.10 as a guest in my Windows Vista. I am having some problems in getting the guest additions to work. When i run the command in the terminal as you had instructed, i get a message saying the guest box additions successfully. But I don’t get the prompt that is Figure 29 after restarting. Also please guide me how to ensure that guest box additions are installed..

Really this instructions makes very easy the job (thank’s Ryan). I wonder if I have Ubuntu 8.10 installed on my machine, but I need ton use a program in Win XP, Can I use VirtualBox to “see” windows Xp on Ubuntu ? Thank’s again to All of you.

Yup. It’s like a real machine, except a little slower. I just installed a ubuntu64 guest in a virtualbox on my windowXP 32 bit host running on my amd quadcore 64bit machine so that I can assist in porting Wine to 64 bit. I had some stability and installation issues initially but things are perfectly stable now. I got past my initial problems with some unknown combination of using the “alternative” ubuntu iso image, as well as the new 2.1.2 virtualbox release. Perhaps with 2.1.2 the “desktop” iso would have installed fine. Before the 2.1.2 release, terminals would close unexpectedly, but consistently as I ran things. Additionally, I used the command line to enable nested paging for a significant performance increase.

I wanted to ask what the advantages of installing Ubuntu on a Virtual Machine like this? I want to program in Linux, but will I be able to do that alright this way?
