OSX Leopard & Life 0

I went down to the local apple store tonight and waited in line for the opening/launch of OSX Leopard. We got there about 6:15 and the line was already pretty long with people cheering and all amp’d up. It was a pretty cool experience and we got free tshirts :)

So far in the past hour I am pretty pleased with all the improvements in Leopard. More to follow I am sure.

Other then the Leopard fun I spent all week in a Solaris 10 training/information class for work. It was pretty informational and I am pretty interested some of the technologies in Solaris 10 such as zones and zfs.

What a week 0

What a crazy week this has been. Monday night around 11pm our cat got really ill and we took him to the emergency vet. Come to find out his urinary track was blocked and his bladder was full and was the size of a baseball. He spent the last 48 hours at the animal hospital and we finally were able to take him home tonight. The total damage $1600 :)

Also my wife dropped her iphone and broke it.. replacement cost $125 we got a discount :) at least something is going right this week.. well sorta.

Wow I feel like life is going 150 mph right now. I quit my job of 2.5 years as a system administrator for a digital jukebox company about a month ago to took a new job as a server administrator for a large newspaper. I was bored and didn’t feel like there was any future at my previous job, I could go on but who cares right? Anyways, it was a long process to get the new job I wanted it took about 2 months and 3 interviews. I had other interviews during that time but they were nothing that really interested me.

I am going on my 3rd week at the new job and I love it. The people are nice and helpful and I am getting to work on some really cool stuff that I would have probably missed out on if I hadn’t taken the risk and stepped out of the “job safety box” earlier in the summer.  It’s kind of nerve racking starting a new job, meeting new people and learning the in’s and out’s of a new job, but this is worth it for sure.

My first project has been working with vmware server to get some initial vmware sessions going with the plan to setup a proof of concept vmware esx cluster with those original vmware server sessions. This is some really awesome technology and I am sure I’ll be blogging about it in the future as I really get my hands into it.

I also decided a few weeks ago to revitalize the moxiewebdns project and possibly launch a dns hosting service on the side. The project has been on my mind for a few months now and I hope to have something stable soon.

Ubuntu Desktop Upgrade 1

My upgrade from Ubuntu 7.04 to 7.10 went very smooth today. I am pleased to say I am running the RC of gutsy now on my desktop.
